Weekend Trip to Dallas

Hey there! Each year, around this time, it seems like the weekends get so booked up and that is certainly true for Nick and I. We have had something on our every single weekend during October and November. While it can seem overwhelming at times, we try our hardest to take a step back and realize how blessed we are to be busy.

For two weekends in a row we traveled to Dallas, Texas which is a little under 3 hours from our hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana. We love to take weekend trips to Dallas and plan to definitely do it more often. The first time we went to Dallas (which was the last weekend in October) had been planned for a month as a late birthday celebration for Nick. He let me completely plan the entire trip and while I kept it a secret for almost a month, I spilled the beans about what we were doing as I was showing him the outfit I bought!

STAY: Since we are Marriott Rewards Members through American Express I typically try and book us rooms at hotels that will earn us points. We chose to stay at the Renaissance Hotel in Dallas and was blown away. I am known to be a little overcritical about hotel rooms and certainly appreciate a nice one. This hotel is newly renovated (smells like fresh paint) and the rooms were amazing!! The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. We visited the restaurant/bar in the lobby each night for a late night snack and cocktail and were super impressed with the service.

DINE: Okay, I have a confession. I got the idea for one of the restaurants we ate at from Real Housewive of Dallas ha! We had dinner Friday night at Feed Company in the Uptown neighborhood. You definitely need a reservation for a weekend night but since it was just the two of us we sat at the bar. The cocktails are all handcrafted and AMAZING. We asked the bartender for an appetizer recommendation and, while tasty, it was basically a plate of chicken strips. The descriptions on the menu were definitely more appetizing than our actual meals. Overall, the atmosphere and cocktails were great but not sure we will be going back for the food. Saturday we had brunch at one of my favorite restaurants, Breadwinners. This place has amazing food, always has a wait, and never disappoints. Since we had a late brunch we skipped lunch and opted for a Starbucks pick-me-up. Since we were headed downtown for the night we chose a restaurant within walking distance of the American Airlines Center. It was not our first time at Meso Maya nor will it be our last. The atmosphere and drinks are excellent. We shared the brisket enchiladas and loved them! Before heading to the AA center we grabbed a drink at The W Hotel and hung out on the patio.

The second weekend we went to Dallas was just a quick overnight trip for Nick’s job. While he was at a conference I was able to meet up with one of my best friends, Randi, who lives in Dallas. We made dinner reservations at Americano, per Randi’s recommendation, inside the Joule hotel. The menu is primarily Italian, which is my favorite cuisine, so I had some high expectations and they were absolutely met! We had the meatballs to start with delicious complimentary homemade bread and marinara sauce. We both had delicious pasta dishes and I don’t think we could’ve went wrong with anything on the menu. I HIGHLY recommend this place and will definitely be going back! Afterwards we went to a cool cocktail bar in the basement of the Joule then to The Statler.

DO: When I found out we were going to Dallas (the first weekend) I looked up what events were going on thinking maybe, just maybe, something cool would be happening. And boy did we hit the jackpot with Kevin Hart performing at the American Airlines Center. We have always loved watching his specials on Netflix and had to buy tickets. The show was AMAZING. We both had that laugh going on where there is no sound, your face literally hurts, and you wake up with sore abs the next morning. If you ever get the chance to see him perform I highly recommend!

Overall we had two very successful weekend trips to Dallas and are looking forward to going back more frequently! Let me know if you like these little trip recaps and if you want me to keep them up!
